Nurses Honor Guard

The Nurses Honor Guard pays tribute to nurses at the time of their death by performing the Nightingale Tribute at the funeral or memorial service. This service is similar to the military tribute, and officially releases the nurse from his/her nursing duties. We also offer Living Tributes to nurses near the end of life.

Members of the San Antonio Nurses Honor Guard are active and retired nurses who volunteer their time and expenses to help provide an honorable, dignified tribute for their fallen sister or brother. The Honor Guard also recognizes the sacrifice that many families give when their loved one is a nurse, and offer support and comfort at this difficult time.

The Nurses Honor Guard dresses in the traditional white uniform complete with cap and cape. The brief ceremony consists of reciting the Nightingale Tribute and laying a white rose near the deceased, symbolizing the dedication to the nursing profession. Proclamation is made that the nurse is officially released from his/her duties, and the Nightingale lamp is extinguished and presented with condolence to the family.

The San Antonio Nurses Honor Guard is a nonprofit corporation registered with the Secretary of the State of Texas.
