OUR FOUNDER: LAURA LOZANO LVN
“I have been a LVN for 23 years. I have worked in large hospitals, small facilities, and have served in management as well.
When Covid hit in 2020, I was both proud and scared to be an “essential worker”. I continued to report for work, as hundreds of thousands of nurses did daily, with little, to no, protection. It was disheartening, to say the least, to see and hear about so many nurses dying on the frontlines. Searching Google about amount of deaths worldwide led me to an article about Nurses Honor Guard. I had never heard of it, but instantly knew I needed to bring a chapter to San Antonio. I got in touch with them and in less than 24 hours, I had founded the San Antonio Nurses Honor Guard and had a FB page up and running. It is an honor to be able to provide a final farewell, and thank you, to nurses and honor their life, and memory, during their time of death.

PRESIDENT: MARIA SANCHEZ MSN, RNC
With over 40 years of nursing experience, Maria has worked in Women’s Services, Med/Surg, Renal Dialysis, and Nursing Administration. Maria is active in many local, state, and federal nursing organizations.
VICE PRESIDENT: DAYNA WADE RN
A graduate of Angelo State University, Dayna has been a nurse for over 28 years, with experience in LTC, Home Health, Nursing Admin, and Quality Control consulting for the state. She is currently a QA Specialist in LTC.
SECRETARY: BONNIE CUNNING LPN
Bonnie is one of the founding members, as well as Secretary. She has worked as a CNA, Unit Secretary, Front Office Receptionist and Transcriptionist as well as being a LPN. Bonnie has worked for the US Air Force since 2005 as a contractor and then a civilian employee. She has experience in long term care, med/surg, post-partum and ICU. Bonnie says, “My Mom and my Great Aunt Betty were both RNs, and like them, this has always been my calling.”
TREASURER: KAREN WEIDLICH BSN, RN
Karen is also a founding member, and has been a nurse since 1994. She currently manages an outpatient wound care center, and has professional certifications in wound care and hyperbaric nursing. Karen designed and maintains this website.
